Roderick Smith
In 2024, Mr. Roderick Smith was appointed the principal of Provine High School. He brings a wealth of 19 years of educational experience to his new role, a testament to his dedication and expertise in the field. During this time, Mr. Smith has fostered the success of students and teachers by implementing organizational and instructional strategies that enhance teaching and learning. His career began at Williams-Sullivan High School, where he served as a STEM teacher. Later, he began working in Jackson Public Schools as a teacher at Callaway High School. After serving there for four years, he transitioned to Wingfield High School in South Jackson. While at Wingfield, Mr. Smith served as a teacher, Interventionist, Assistant Principal, and Principal. He and his team transformed the school from the lowest-performing high school in Mississippi, improving its rating from an F to a C.
Mr. Smith earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from "THEE" Jackson State University. He also participated in the Mississippi Alternate Pathway to Qualified School Leaders (MAPQSL), a comprehensive training program designed to transform classroom teachers into leaders. Mr. Smith is honored to serve as Principal of Provine High School. He believes in developing positive relationships among students, families, and staff. He is also committed to maintaining a safe and orderly educational environment. His vision for the growth of all scholars, both students and staff, is a source of inspiration and motivation for the entire school community.
